Peer Support Leader Training (Monday)
This course will be accredited by OCN NI and all participants who complete the programme and assessment will receive a Level 3 Peer Support Worker Certificate
We Are Pangs are once again offering our peer support training course for parents who have been through perinatal mental illness and wish to help others. This course has been funded by Comic Relief.
This in-depth training will take place every Monday evening from 6pm to 9pm for a total of ten weeks, beginning on Monday 11th January and finishing on Monday 15th March.
Attendees will receive comprehensive training on how to set up, run, and troubleshoot peer support groups for parents with depression, anxiety and other mental health concerns in pregnancy or following the birth of a baby.
Once the course is completed there will be a short assessment and following completion of the assessment, attendees will become official We Are Pangs Practitioners and will be given support to set up peer support groups in their own area.
If you are unsure if this course is for you, we can put you in touch with past students to hear their experiences on request.
We are hoping to deliver all of this course face to face, however, with the uncertainty around COVID-19, there may be occasions when we need to move the class online. In this instance, we will use Zoom to facilitate classes.
While this course is fully funded by Comic Relief, we are asking attendees to pay a REFUNDABLE £50 deposit to secure a place. Once you have completed the assessment your deposit will be refunded.
In order to ensure that We Are Pangs gains the maximum benefit from providing this training, attendees will be required to sign a non-compete contract before the course begins. This means that for a period of 12 months following the end of the course, you may only use this training to set up a peer support group specifically for We Are Pangs and no other group. Once this 12 month period is over, you are free to use your skills however you wish.
Following the successful completion of the course, you will be given full support to set up your own We Are Pangs peer support group including booking of venues, advertising of the group and a listening ear should you encounter problems while running the group. For the first year, this support is free. For each year following we ask for a voluntary contribution of £30 per year to assist us to cover the costs.
You must be able to attend the full course in order to become accredited. Please do not take space if you can’t attend every class. As this course is funded, it’s important we use this funding as best we can. This means ensuring places are available for those who really want to participate.
