Art Therapy Course

Our art therapy course is a relaxing and supportive space for you to engage in art-making in a safe and structured wat. No experience of art-making is necessary, and you do not have to be good at art to attend. Art Therapy by nature is adaptable to each person’s needs, abilities and helps you feel accepted for who and where you are now.

As a group we will set goals and intentions, but the essence of Art therapy always beats its heart in the sessions through spontaneity, accident, play, working together by sharing looking and exploring.

Art making in this way can be an expression of things that we find impossible to say in words. Art can assist in moving towards wholeness and it can be grounding and assist in expanding awareness about yourself.

There are many benefits by being part of a group, a major benefit is validation. By being part of a group of people who have experienced similar issues you can see that you are not alone in your struggles it can reduce the feeling of isolation. It is our intention that this group will be a safe, confidential space to make connections and ground ourselves in the art making experience.

We will be using a wide variety of materials, paint, crayons, felt tips, collage work, journaling and there will be an index card a day challenge!

This creative experience will be an opportunity for playfulness, connection, to be in the present moment and to embody gentleness for ourselves and each other, we may also have a bit of fun.

Our tutor Oonagh is an experienced Art Therapist, supervisor, artist and yoga teacher. She has worked for 23 years in the community and voluntary sector, the NHS, prisons and educational settings with adults and children who experience mental health difficulties.

She is also a hatha, yin and vinyasa flow yoga teacher, she believes that the combination of art, yoga, meditation and relaxation is incredibly beneficial and healing for emotional, mental and physical health.

We are offering a once-weekly closed group to be held over 4 consecutive sessions via the online app Zoom.

The groups will take place each Tuesday from 10.30-11.30am from Tuesday 19th January 2021.
