Peer Support Leader Training

  • Start: February 4, 2020 6:00 pm
  • End: March 24, 2020 9:00 pm

We Are Pangs are delighted to be launching our first-ever training course for parents who have been through perinatal mental illness and wish to help others. This course has been funded by Comic Relief and The Community Foundation for Northern Ireland.

This in-depth training will take place every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6pm to 9pm for a total of eight weeks, beginning on Tuesday 4th February and finishing on Thursday 26th March.

Attendees will receive comprehensive training on how to set up, run and troubleshoot peer support groups for parents with depression, anxiety and other mental health concerns in pregnancy or following the birth of a baby.

Once the course is completed there will be a short assessment and following completion of the assessment, attendees will become official We Are Pangs Practitioners and will be given support to set up peer support groups in their own area.

While this course is fully funded by Comic Relief, we are asking attendees to pay a REFUNDABLE £50 deposit to secure a place. Once you have completed the assessment your deposit will be refunded.

In order to ensure that We Are Pangs gains the maximum benefit from providing this training, attendees will be required to sign a non-compete contract before the course begins. This means that for a period of 12 months following the end of the course, you may only use this training to set up a peer support group specifically for We Are Pangs and no other group. Once this 12 month period is over, you are free to use your skills however you wish.

Following the successful completion of the course, you will be given full support to set up your own We Are Pangs peer support group including booking of venues, advertising of the group and a listening ear should you encounter problems while running the group. For the first year, this support is free. For each year following we ask for a voluntary contribution of £30 per year to assist us to cover the costs.

You must be able to attend the full course in order to become accredited. Please do not take a space if you can’t attend every class. As this course is funded, it’s important we use this funding as best we can. This means ensuring places are available for those who really want to participate.
