OUR VISION AND MISSION
We Are Pangs is a perinatal mental health charity with a focus on peer support, education and campaigning. We are a people-led charity and we work closely with parents and health professionals to design our services and programmes.Â
Â
Our vision is a better life for all parents living through mental illness in the perinatal period and beyond.
Â
Our mission is to help parents and their families navigate mental illness by providing support services, advice, guidance and resources. We also want to raise awareness of perinatal mental illness in the community, and campaign for better services in Northern Ireland.
THE STATISTICS

FATHERS WILL ALSO STRUGGLE WITH THEIR MENTAL EITHER AS A RESULT OF BECOMING A PARENT, OR OF SUPPORTING A PARTNER THROUGH MENTAL ILLNESS
NORTHERN IRELAND IS THE ONLY UK NATION THAT ISN'T INVESTING IN PERINATAL MENTAL HEALTHCARE.
We Are Pangs wants to ensure that every parent has access to safe, timely, and appropriate support and access to specialist services. We want to grow a supportive community of parents, volunteers, health professionals and partners to ensure no parent is left to struggle alone.
WHAT WE DO
Peer Support
Â
We Are Pangs is primarily a peer support service for parents. We put our volunteers through a rigorous training programme before helping them to set up peer support groups either in the community or online. These groups can be accessed by any parent who is struggling and needs a safe space to talk through their experience and be supported on their journey towards recovery.Â
We also provide a series of practical programmes such as art therapy, parenting groups and more.Â
Â
FOR HEALTH PROFESSIONALS: If your patient is registering as mild/moderate for perinatal mental illness, you can refer them to our peer support services.Â
information & resources
Â
We understand that whether you are a parent, someone supporting a parent, a health professional, or a volunteer, that the vast amount of information on perinatal mental illness can be overwhelming. We have created a library of information all in one place that you can access free of charge.Â
These resources include information on the types of illnesses, how to support someone, audio tracks, guided meditations, self-help workbooks and more.Â
FOR HEALTH PROFESSIONALS: We have included the Northern Ireland care pathways for diagnosing and treating patients with perinatal mental illness.
campaigning
Â
We Are Pangs works with our friends and partners across Northern Ireland and the UK to fight for better services for parents. We are members of the Maternal Mental Health Alliance and contribute to their Everyone’s Business Campaign. You can find out more about the campaign and its progress here.Â
